It is a stone cladding in which the natural stones that make it up are of irregular format, also called slab, flagstone or quarry stone. They are used to achieve a rustic ambience or an air of pretentiously rustic decoration.

This type of stone is extracted by hand directly from the quarry, without undergoing industrial cutting processes. These pieces are sized by opening them by means of splitting, by their exfoliation planes or natural cutting layer, achieving completely irregular sizes and formats. Due to the lesser treatment and handling of the material, it is usually also a material available at lower prices.

As with any other type of cladding, we must follow a few simple steps to achieve a correct execution:

The support surface must be properly prepared and cleaned, and it may be necessary to putty the façade with cement beforehand, making sure that it is free of elements that may hinder the adherence of the bonding materials.
In this case, the bonding material must be a mortar with a mixture of sand, as it must work correctly with very variable thicknesses. The lesser adherence of this type of mortar is solved by filling the joints between the stones that make up the cladding with the same mortar, and usually also with a slight reinforcement in the back of the cladding, by placing a mesh or small corrugated steel keys.
Finally, if necessary, the joints are filled with more mortar, applying a colouring agent to dye it if it is considered appropriate for decorative purposes, and taking special care to clean it afterwards.

This exterior cladding enhances the visible image of the building and provides it with a series of qualities related to sobriety, elegance and durability.
