Stone enclosures

Enclosures are enveloping surfaces that delimit and condition constructions (farms, homes or other types of buildings), covering and closing off an area to prevent passage, delimiting the architectural space and separating spaces.

For this purpose, solid, durable, insulating and waterproof materials are required, qualities inherent to natural stone, which is why it has been used since time immemorial for this purpose. This was its first constructive use, evolving to the present day.

Among the different natural stone walls that we can find in enclosures and exterior walls, we see:

Masonry walls, with all types of stones, they can be of the concertada or desconcertada type, bearing wall or cladding, with or without a joint. We can highlight here, for example, masonry with slate, which is easy to work with and adapts to all types of laying.

Walls with ashlars, these are sized blocks that form a wall; they can be made of sandstone, granite, limestone, etc.

Gabion walls, or metal mesh filled with stone, both aesthetically pleasing and for land containment.

Cladding with irregular stone, planchón type, stone slabs with natural quarry cut and little thickness that is usually placed with a cement joint.

Cladding with cut tiles, adhered to the wall with mortar and anchoring if necessary, fulfils both an aesthetic and a practical function, protecting the walls. Almost any type of stone can be used, in various finishes, formats and thicknesses. Other formats of cut stone for cladding, currently in trend, are pre-assembled slab panels (small pieces joined into a tile) or strips (thin, elongated strips).

Retaining walls, widely used in landscaping and gardening projects, made of stone blocks, with the purpose of containing earth, making slopes or saving heights in this type of spaces.

To crown these enclosures, which are usually low in height, it is important to finish them off with copings or wall copings of the same type of material, ensuring that they are waterproof and aesthetically pleasing. Any choice of enclosure with our natural stones will be a success for your new construction or renovation.
